My sister Teri and me in our 20's, off on our big adventure. driving a silver Chevette, with a stick shift. We each had about $500....cash. No credit cards, no cell phones. Just us, a car, a map, and a voracious hunger to discover the world. Evanston Illinois to Portland Oregon. That would be easy! We jumped in the car and headed out with no plan and no reservations, just the address of our Aunt Jo. Within one hour we missed our exit, got on the wrong highway, but got turned around and off we went laughing at ourselves! Once we got on Highway 90 West there was nothing stopping us.
No fear. Only fun. I know. Young and naive and very lucky considering we camped along the way too. But I'm glad it was so spontaneous. I'm glad that we truly didn't know what to expect. Everything we saw was for the first time, from the neverending flatness and blue skies of Montana to the erupting majestic Rockies.
We had one rule. We could only eat in small towns, which meant getting off the highway. How can you discover the country from a four-lane highway? We ended up on a dusty road, only to get caught in a herd of buffalo--who could easily squash a Chevette like a tin can! We made friends, got offered jobs, and I even fell in love. No, I'm not telling you about it. Maybe someday...when we know each other better.
Journeys. Spontaneity. Discovery. This blog-journey I'm on is going the same way which thrills my heart because I didn't even realize it until I wrote it...and that holds exciting promises in the future, even if it means getting confused and needing to turn around from time to time. It will be worth it because you meet real people when you get off our everyday highways of busy-ness, worry, or even self-concern.
This Go-DIVA journey that I'm on, that I'm inviting you to join? Well, Edy and I have been traveling it for a bit. She actually started her journey first, and I joined her. So in order to join her, I asked her a lot of questions about how she found the letters.
The next series of posts will be the emails we sent back and forth. How she found the letters is a story in itself. Who knows what else Edy will find. And wait till I tell you the amazing "coincidences" that happened when I went to England.
